Professor Mikey's Old School

Series produced by Mike Flanagan

Series image

The educational underground pirate radio Old School podcast with Professor Mikey featuring rarities, stories, and surprises from the last half of the 20th century. An eclectic variety of discovery across genres for newer music lovers, a reconnection for the rest of us.

Professor Mikey did over 50 years in radio, but try not to hold that against him. 55 markets, 55,000 air hours (at least), 50/50 commercial/public. Old School is a series he began at CU Boulder's Radio 1190. The podcast version shortly after retiring from OpenAir, the station he created for Colorado Public Radio.

Rather than sleepy reminisces or patchy critiques, Old School is an educational yet fun dalliance into popular music from the 50s through the 90s, put together in theme shows that include rock, country, soul, jazz, pop, and any other form that might further the cause of the story at hand. It's different, and the creator of this series can only write in the third person for so long.

For those who may have lost their musical ways, it is a reconnection with the fun and anticipation of the sounds that ruled their younger souls. For those whose vinyl collection is weighed in grams, it is an introduction to the creations and the artists who defined their times, whether their own stories stayed with us or faded in the myst of a memory.
