Through intimate conversations with abortion providers nationwide, "The Nocturnists: Post-Roe America" delves into the aftermath of the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade. Hosted by family and reproductive medicine physician Ali Block, this series explores the profound clinical, logistical, and emotional implications of the 2022 Dobbs decision from the frontlines of reproductive healthcare.

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade sent a shock wave through the medical community. Rarely has a single policy decision affected our practice so immediately, and so dramatically. As the implications of this new ruling compounded, the award-winning medical storytelling live show and podcast The Nocturnists started to speak with abortion providers across the United States — from Texas to Tennessee, and Oklahoma to Ohio. We wanted to understand the clinical, logistical, and emotional ramifications of the Dobbs decision, and offer a platform for healthcare workers to lift their voices.

Over the last 15 months we heard stories about the moral injury of not being able to provide care; the fear of being charged with a crime for practicing medicine; the chaos of creating new workflows and policies; the impact of Dobbs on future generations of learners. Many abortion providers were faced with impossible choices — not just about how to care for patients, but about if, when, and how to restructure their entire lives. This series, hosted by abortion provider and The Nocturnists' Executive Producer, Dr. Ali Block, gives voice to those experiences. Hide full description
