Muddy Boots Podcast (2017) – Episode 1: Inspired by my time at Standing Rock, I wish to begin this series of episodes with an ode and celebration of our Mother Earth. In the words of Edward Abbey: The earth, like the sun, like the air, belongs to everyone—and to no one. So, I hereby invite y’all to come journey on the first episode of the year -Turtle Island (Part I).
It's noteworthy to mention that for 20+ years, and as far as music is concerned, I have been a field recordist, sound painter, music curator/archivist, and a radio producer. I know nowadays folks can simply go to spotify or pandora to stream or whatever, but I hope if you listen to my work that you can see that this labor of love is my love of sound that transcends the algorithms of what a streaming service provides. Those services give you relative accessibility but lack immensely in musical curation, wit, or even creativity. Verily, I invite you to listen beyond the confines of algorithms.
What am I rambling on about? Well, I work tirelessly to provide and spark in each and every listener to the Muddy Boots audio experience a sense of wonder, awe, and imagination through the soundscapes/mix tapes/podcasts/sound paintings that I whip up. We are alive, yes. Life can be sad, depressing, and miserable, yes. Life can also fill us with magic, love, and joy, too. Verily, I invite you to celebrate this world with me.
Sound, or at least when one chooses to open themselves to such a curious world, can stir beauty within, whereby we make sound great again (sorry, i couldn't resist). Bend your ears...support the arts....explore the galaxy of sound within and around you. Verily, I invite you to come paint a magic of sound on a star hung night.
Way back when I made mix tapes, and this Podcast/Sound Painting is basically an extension of that, a refined and honed version, if you will. I have some delicious surprises in store, so stay tuned. Come usher in Part VII of Sometimes a Saint & Sometimes A Sinner. We’ll tread between the two worlds with a rich collection of old spirituals, murder ballads and the like. It is said that that a saint is nothing more than a sinner revised and edited. Are the two one and the same? One thing is for sure, heaps of fine music has been created in the human drama of good and evil.
Come usher in Part VII of Sometimes a Saint & Sometimes A Sinner. We’ll tread between the two worlds with a rich collection of old spirituals, murder ballads and the like. What Dreams May Come... is an ongoing themed show produced, compiled and hosted by Tenali Hrenak - a passionate music listener, researcher, and collector. As the title suggests, the series explore the dream world through music, clips, sound collages and what-have-yous. The shows are featured on the two hour weekly program The Other Side on KVMR FM Nevada Cit y where Tenali is a frequent guest host. In his shows he likes to include field recordings , found sounds, film clips, etc., as a form of musical decoration, designed to be like a an old pair of muddy boots; going where sneakers never will. His cat is purported to be the muse or so he thinks..
Each part is uploaded into hour 1 and hour 2 segments. Stations can choose to air each part in a unified block of two hour programming. Keep an eye on more shows to be uploaded in the coming year soon after they air.
Playlist varies from blues, jazz, folk, old time, oddities, and international music from the 1920 & 30s and beyond!
