VoiceBox is a weekly public radio and podcast series all about the human voice and the best of the vocal music scene.

An independent project launched under the auspices of KALW 91.7 FM San Francisco in January 2010 and now available on several stations throughout California as well as via a free weekly podcast on iTunes (search for 'kalwvoicebox'), VoiceBox seeks to highlight and contextualize the work of singers, songwriters and vocal music experts from across a wide range of backgrounds, while stimulating in-depth, high quality discussion about the human voice and encouraging listeners to both broaden their musical horizons and participate in singing activities of their own.

To find out more about VoiceBox, please visit www.voicebox-media.org.

Each hour-long, thematically-organized show in the VoiceBox series is dedicated to exploring a particular vocal music topic. Some of our favorite shows from recent months include the art of opera translation, singing ventriloquists (Yes! On the radio!) and the relationship between singing and surfing. The programs feature in-depth discussion with invited guests illustrated by an electric range of relevant audio clips.

The show is created and hosted by Chloe Veltman, a British-raised, San Francisco-based arts journalist and passionate amateur singer. A former culture correspondent for the New York Times and contributor to publications like The Los Angeles Times, BBC Classical Music Magazine, American Theatre Magazine, Dwell and The Believer, Chloe is currently a John S Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University and is about to embark upon another fellowship at Stanford for the 2012-2013 academic year with the Humanities Center, where she will be working on a book about singing.

The series producer of VoiceBox is Seth Samuel.
