2012: A Year In Your Ear - "Doggie Sunglasses"

From Mad Genius | Part of the 2012: A Year In Your Ear series | 05:36

The first entry in our "A Year In Your Ear" series: "Doggie Sunglasses." The year begins with the GOP trying to outgun each other, Obama trying to be funny while Kelly Clarkson tries to be a fundit, a giant frickin' boat tries to stay upright and Lana Del Rey plays the role of Greek siren.

While working on its debut album, the anonymous vérité pop collective Mad Genius decided to follow the real money with this foray into public broadcasting.

Keeping with what we do best, we're sampling the world's news and audio culture (both professional and amateur) in an effort to tell stories in a way that would make Ira either cry in pain or throw fits of furious envy. Maybe both, come to think of it. We're taking the talking heads and turning them into pop stars, making music with only the month's media and nothing more.

Our first entry: "Doggie Sunglasses." January finds the GOP trying to outgun each other, Obama trying to be funny while Kelly Clarkson tries to be a fundit, a giant frickin' boat tries to stay upright and Lana Del Rey plays the role of Greek siren.

February may include a duet between Whitney Houston and Rick Santorum. Don't say we didn't warn you.

2012: A Year In Your Ear - Higgs Boson!

From Mad Genius | Part of the 2012: A Year In Your Ear series | 04:04

Mad Genius proudly presents the latest song in our "2012: A Year In Your Ear" series: "Higgs Boson!" Geeks rejoice! Researchers at the Large Hadron Collider have discovered the Higgs Boson, the so-called "God Particle" which gives everything in the universe mass.

But it's also complicated science, and the social media world has surrounded Dr. Peter Higgs' personal triumph with words of wonder, jubilation, suspicion and controversy. Mad Genius bottles this reaction in a song using only news footage and YouTube videos. Black holes? Alternate universes? A telephone to God? Download now and find out.

The goal is to create an hour-long musical time capsule by the end of the year. That is, of course, unless the apocalypse comes first.
