An evocative reminder how how easily peak experiences in our lives become buried so deeply in the minutiae of day-to-day experience that we can barely remember having had them.
Made me both sad and happy. Sad for the friendships that have fallen away because of time, but happy for the times I shared with those friends. Time can't steal memories; time preserves memories.
Loved the image of the boys running away, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Is there such a thing as a cute feminist story? :) Reminded me of waterskiing on the Tchefuncte River in Louisiana, looking for alligators around every bend. Good motivation to stay up!
I'm inspired by these short pieces -- hearing how the author came to create this piece and just how good the snapshot in life is. Bikinis from Target, boys who aren't heroes, a girl who is. BFF's who end up being BF's for Awhile. Well done.

Lingering Smile
A delightful, feel-good piece! I love how Crane captures the speech and tone of adolescent best friends. This story feels like a lingering smile.

A very large story in just a few words, selecting one moment and recording a lifetime. Brava!

Who's starring in the feature film?
No, really. Just great. And a perfect reading.

Lift off!
The ending's gorgeous - lifts off so the sting and the glory of this friendship stays with you.
