Threshold is a documentary audio show that tackles one pressing environmental issue each season. Released as a podcast and broadcast on public radio, we report the story where it's happening through a range of voices and perspectives. Our show is a home for rigorous, in-depth journalism and nuanced conversation about human relationships with the natural world.

Season Three: The Refuge ⠀

The Refuge explores the decades-long controversy over oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This debate is often reduced to a binary, black and white, pro- versus anti-oil shouting match. But through the dozens of conversations we had with people from the indigenous communities closest to the refuge, as well as with politicians, policymakers, and scientists, we revealed a much more complex narrative.⠀

The Refuge has four one-hour episodes that are formatted to the public radio clock.

Season Two: Cold Comfort⠀

Featuring reporting from all eight Arctic countries, we ask: What is the Arctic? What’s changing there? And, why does this matter to all of us?⠀

All season two episodes are formatted for the 29-minute radio clock. We've also produced extras at varying lengths, and a one-hour "Earth Day Special" formatted specifically for public radio.⠀

Season One: Oh, Give Me a Home⠀

We tell the story of the American bison, and ask if—and how—we could ever have wild, free-roaming bison again.⠀

All season two episodes are formatted for the 29-minute radio clock. Hide full description
