A mini-series of four hour-long, stand-alone programs exploring the instrumental music of Antonio Vivaldi.

?Vivaldi For All Seasons? is a mini-series of four radio programs exploring the instrumental music of Antonio Vivaldi. Each program is 59:00, with an 85/15 percent music/talk ratio, and each includes one of the Four Seasons concertos, although the programs are not seasonally themed. They may be broadcast as a weekly or monthly series, separately as one hour stand-alone specials, or together as two two-hour blocks or one four-hour block.

The programs feature a mix of concertos, sonatas and overtures, with selected movements in some cases, drawn mostly from recordings of the past two decades, and were chosen for both performance merits and wide appeal. Light commentary is provided by Vic Di Geronimo, the program?s producer and a weekday classical music host on WILL-FM at the University of Illinois. Playlists, and more information about the programs, are available at will.uiuc.edu.

Program #1: Vivaldi as the composer of great tunes. Vivaldi was born in Venice where, in his time, people sang everywhere. Vivaldi?s music, even his instrumental music, was another vehicle for Venetian song. The program concludes with the ?Spring? concerto.

Program #2: Vivaldi the dramatist. Vivaldi?s concertos can be heard as groupings of dramatic scenes; the program notes a few of the dramatic devices Vivaldi used, and the ?Summer? concerto serves as the culmination of Vivaldi the dramatist.

Program #3: This program focuses on spectacle and competition surrounding Vivaldi and his music, including a complete ?play by play? of one of Vivaldi?s finest seasons, Autumn.

Program #4: Vivaldi as world-class chef: a feast of Vivaldi delicacies, topped off with the frosty delights of the ?Winter? concerto.
