Thumbrtglogo_small This is a documentary tracing three generations of music and musicians, from three continents, who came together in Birmingham, England, and created some extroaordinary music which has gone around the world. Starting with the 50s pioneers who arrived from Jamaica to help in post-war reconstruction, and moving on to their children who grew up to create the great Reggae and Reggae-inspired bands like UB40 and Steel Pulse, and pioneering Asian Rap crossover artists like Apache Indian. They mostly settled in Handsworth and Balsall Heath, originally all-white working class areas, and now very diverse. And now, there's a third generation.  Featuring interviews witjh Robin Campbell (UB40). Basil Gabbidon (Steel Pulse), Apache Indian, Andy Hamilton, Ruby Turner, and Muff Winwood (Spencer Davis Group), and others. Handswporth Evolution is presented and produced by Robin Valk, a veteran broadcaster based in the city.
