A Raisin in the Sun

From L.A. Theatre Works | Part of the L.A. Theatre Works series | 01:58:00

"What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?"

Raisin-in-the-sun-a_small Inspired by these words from a Langston Hughes poem, Lorraine Hansberry created one of the great works of American theatre - A Raisin in the Sun. Her groundbreaking work, which opened on Broadway in 1959, chronicles the Younger family on the south side of Chicago. This compelling portrait of competing dreams earned Hansberry the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play at the age of 29. She became the youngest playwright and the first African-American to win that honor.

Starring Judyann Elder, James Gleason, Noah Gray-Cabey, Corey Hawkins, Deidrie Henry, Terrell Tilford, Rutina Wesley, and Mirron Willis. Directed by Lou Bellamy.
