From Frogs To Wands of Destiny: The Invention of the Home Pregnancy Test

From: Mother
Length: 10:20

Pregnancy tests weren't always the neat, little plastic wands we have in drug stores today.

Predictor_bonhams_small Pregnancy tests weren't always the neat, little plastic wands we have in drug stores today. Back in the day, they involved grizzly lab tests on frogs and mice and some very serious biochemistry.

All of that started to change after a young graphic designer visited a pharma lab in 1967 -- and had a crazy idea: Why couldn't a woman do her own pregnancy test in the privacy of her home?

Special thanks to Dr. Jesse Olszynko-Gryn (University of Cambridge), whose research provided the basis for this piece.
