Learning to Live Together - North Belfast

From Mike Hally | Part of the Learning to Live Together - Conflict and Peace-building Northern Ireland series | 06:00

Political journalist Peter Geoghegan looks at the state of reconciliation and peace-making in Northern Ireland over a series of five short reports that show some of the efforts being made at street level, the problems they face, the wider political context and hopes and fears for the future.

In this first episode Peter meets John Loughran and John Howcroft, two community development workers from very different backgrounds and traditions in the New Lodge and Tiger’s Bay, parts of North Belfast that suffered some of the worst violence of the Troubles.

He sees the progress they and their colleagues are making, including the gate in the peace wall that divides Alexandra Park and the shared housing project Delaware House.

This report was produced by Mike Hally of Square Dog Radio, an independent multimedia production company that makes programmes for a variety of clients including BBC Radio 4 and World Service.  The series was supported by the N I Community Relations Council, but the views expressed are not necessarily those of the CRC.
