A 13-year-old girl in Chennai, India, had always wanted to visit the United States. But when she does, her idealized view of America is tested by the racism she encounters.
Thirteen-year-old Ananya Shankar had always wanted to visit the United States. She thought it would be like the "best place on earth." So when she had the chance to leave her home in Chennai, India and visit her cousins in Seattle, Ananya was thrilled. But her idealized view of the U.S was tested when she realized that here, her brown skin draws unwanted attention. Her cousin, RadioActive’s Kamna Shastri, has the story.
